Sandra Ng & Mid Autumn Fest - Sep 22, 2010

Lily and I skipped our Japanese culture class to go to a movie panel for the movie All About Love, which has the famous HK actress Sandra Ng. I have no idea who she is, but apparently she’s well known for being in a bunch of comical HK movies, so I’m guessing you Cantonese speakers probably know her. Yea, I GOT TO SEE HER IN PERSON! The panel was in Cantonese, so I had to get a translation box and listen to the guests through headphones. I wish I understood the slang/jokes better though.

We took total groupie shots with Sandra Ng in the background.

The girl next to us wanted one as well. It’s the closest we got to a picture with Sandra Ng!

At night a group of us headed out to Victoria Park (the biggest park in HK), where there was a huge festival showcasing lanterns. I was so glad that the rain finally stopped, because I wanted to experience the traditional Mid Autumn celebration. I wanted to feel like I was in Spirited Away

The park was beautiful, chock full of lights and wonder. We were here on the night we got lost in Causeway Bay, but now we get to see everything lit up!

I was so happy that there were so many lanterns everywhere, I got to take a bunch of bokeh shots.

This arch changed color from blue to green.

Group shot under the arch, with unintentional height scaling!

Another group shot, where Will is showing off his jungle juice. Yes, he brought a bottle of homemade jungle juice to the festival. He was pre-gaming for the possible afterparty.

This giant sized lantern teaset was so pretty!

Rabbit looking at the moon. I thought that it was looking at the real moon, but that golden circle is the moon. Lame.

This area had blue icicle lights hanging overhead, and it really had the ability to make you feel like you were tripping out on lights. If Peter were high, he’d look like this. Disgusting, I know.

We walked around the park looking for a kiosk where we could buy mini lanterns to hold, but couldn’t find any inside the park. I was really bummed that I didn’t get to hold my own. What we did find though, was a lady selling star wands. Peter really wanted it, so I spotted him.

Eventually Will broke down and got one too, so they became Sailor Moon.

SD sucks.

Here’s one of the few pictures I have with Chin, since we always tend to be the ones behind the cameras instead of in front:

Eventually the place started getting cramped like a really crowded concert, and we saw all that we needed to see, so we went to grab some food at McDonalds before figuring out where to go after. Titi and Leanne really wanted to go Karaoke, but Peter/Chin wanted to go to Wan Chai with the CUHK people for Ladies night, and the rest wanted to go home.

It ended up being just Leanne, Titi and me who wanted to Karaoke, and we separated from the other people in the group to go our respective ways. After getting to the venue we found out that we had to make reservations for the night if we wanted to sing, so that ended up being a fail as well. These two were so sad that we never got to do anything fun after the festival. The night was still fun though, and I got to sleep early. :D

Must karaoke at least once before leaving HK!
