I’m a simple girl with simple tastes who likes to eat light food, especially noodles. I’m happy just eating my BBQ pork + noodles meal at the Queen Mary Hospital canteen, and it’s cheaper too.

But, I’m in freaking Hong Kong, so what do I do all the time? Eat dim sum as much as possible, and try to go even when it’s not lunch time. To be completely honest, I’m not that big of a fan of dim sum. I mean, I like it, but I can totally do without eating it everyday. I also can’t really tell the difference when it comes to dim sum quality (unless it’s REALLY bad), because I don’t know how one restaurant’s shumai are better than another’s.
BUT, this place that Peter wanted to go to called Tim Ho Wan was given a Michelin Star, so we went to see what the hype is about.
Quite a lot of hype, because the line outside was ridiculous and we had to wait a while before getting our table.

So what do we do when we have time to kill and have to wait outside in the rain? CAM HO! Cue “Vogue” music. I wish I looked more normal in my pictures.

We always need to make sure the bromantic couple have their photoshoot as well.

And one last good pic of the girls, with synchronized foot popping.

The menu had limited options for dim sum choices, with only certain basic dishes, but whatever we ended up ordering was AM-A-ZING.

I take back what I said about not knowing what good “ha gow” tastes like. It tastes like this restaurant’s. Even the chicken rice was good, which I’m usually not a fan of back home in the LA dimsum restaurants.
The ultimate superb dish was the pork buns, which were special. They had a sweet crust on top and chasiu inside, essentially a hybrid pineapple/chasiu bun. The glutinous dumplings were delicious as well, but I was too busy munching on it to get a good picture of it. Next time, folks, because I’m definitely coming back here again.

After a satisfying and filling meal, we went next door to order dessert at a shaved snow shop. Leanne, Chin and I shared a mango shaved snow dish, which was only subpar compared to Class 302’s shaved snow. This place also gave us stale corn flakes as one of the toppings. CEREAL? Really? The yogurt balls on the top corner that look like yellow boba are really fun to eat, because they just burst in your mouth and disappear.

We tried to pay our bill with a crapload of coins, only to have the waitress reject our money. The dessert place is now on our black-list. Hah! Chin ended up taking all the coins and replacing them with bills, adding more weight to his umbrella/coin bag. Fortunately, he was able to exchange it for more bills at the 7-Eleven nearby.

We all eventually parted ways as the night wound down, but some of us ended up at Westwood, a shopping mall near the HKU campus. When I first heard about it I thought it would be just like the Westwood back home near UCLA, a homey village with plenty of space to walk around. Nah, it’s just a stinking mall that you have to walk down 5-6 flights of stairs to get to (at least people are given escalators to go back up the stairs).

We bought some essentials and hung around the alcohol section, looking at the different brands. They have such gigantic cans of beer here.

Peter and I finally settled on buying too bottles of lychee flavored beer to try, which tasted like lychee soda.

Here’s the secret: it’s only 0.5% alcohol. I didn’t even know such a thing existed!

Some of the girls got hungry after a while, and we all agreed on ordering McDonalds Delivery. They deliver 24 hours here! Tell me again why people aren’t fat here?

Initially Peter had come over because we were all going to watch the scary Thai movie Shutter, but he left to get some sleep before getting to watch it with us. The three girls, Courtney, Titi and Leanne all didn’t want to watch the movie because they were really scared, but I forced them to because I’m apparently the “Devil.” I forgot a lot of the scary scenes in the movie, and felt bad that I made them watch one of the more scary foreign films, but it was HILARIOUS.
It was great to watch the three of them: Leanne bouncing up and down on her chair, Courtney covering her eyes and screaming “Leanne, what’s happening!?” and Titi’s fro going down on the bed everytime she said “This is foolish! I’m going to bed now” but eventually coming back up to watch more of the film.
I’m not going to spoil the movie, but let’s just say they were so scared at the end that they made me go to the restroom with them to brush their teeth.
