Who is ever going to pass up free food, especially free dim sum? People living in Patrick Manson and the student flats were invited to a paid dim sum lunch, and since I have no class on Fridays, I joined in on the mooching.
Apparently our food was already chosen, so all we had to do was sit down and eat. The organizer of the event told us that if the waiters didn’t bring out any of the food we wanted to eat, we could order some extra items, and we couldn’t pass up ordering the “liu sha bao”, “cha siu bao”, and some “ha gao”.

Here’s some awesome mango pudding in the shape of a heart!

We had an all girl’s table, so we spent half the time cam-hoing and the other half eating. The lady who took this group picture had to take about 10 of them, because so many of the girls wanted their own copy on their cameras.

The girl sitting to the left of me is one of my roommates from Fudan University in Shanghai, named Xi Yue (or Twinnie, which she likes to call herself because she likes Winnie the Pooh. Oh, how I love Asian English names.)
First roommate picture of the semester! Too bad my other roommate wasn’t here to join in on the fun, but I’ll post a picture up of her soon.

Eventually, after we finished eating most of the food and became full, the big dishes started to come. There were full dishes of noodles or creamy rice, which should have came earlier when we were starving, but people just ended up taking the food home at the end. Whoever said that it isn’t common Chinese custom to take home food is WRONG. You ARE ALLOWED to take food in to-go boxes! Just letting y’all know.
Obligatory mirror picture because I wanted to get people around us. Unfortunately only Leanne and I are the clear figures in the picture.

Leanne and I eventually met up with Peter, Will and Chin because Peter and Will wanted to go get their suits tailor-made at some place in Tsim Sha Tsui. Since their dorms have monthly “High table dinners” in which the students have to dress up in formal wear, the guys wanted to buy nicely fitted suits.
But first, the goal was to hit Macau Cafe, a restaurant with Macanese style food and Portuguese egg tarts. Portuguese egg tarts are a lot better than regular egg tarts, because the filling is sweeter and has a creme brulee style to it.

Chin and I really wanted to try the pigeon here, so we ordered one. I have a new favorite bird. It was tasty, but small for the price we paid. It was totally worth seeing Peter freak out though, since he’s not a big fan of animal heads facing him. He didn’t like that the pigeon was looking at him, even though he ate part of its body. You gotta pay your respects, man.

Oh, here’s a better view. Cue “Psycho” music.

After dinner we made it to the suit tailor shop, where the guys got their measurements. I’d never been to a suit tailor before, so it was intriguing to watch the whole process. The only time I’ve ever seen anybody get measured is in movies for weddings! I’m quite excited to see how the suits turn out, because they will actually fit the guys’ body almost perfectly. Chin totally needs to get one here before going back to the US, because his tiny body can’t fit anything back home.

Uniqlo was our next stop, where we all did a bit of shopping. Here’s another Engrish T-shirt we found while we were there! What red nose would you like to pick, and why would you want to pick your nose until it’s red?

We checked out another plaza called The One, because some of the guys were craving frozen yogurt. While standing outside of a drink stand called “Happy Lemon,” Chin saw on the menu something that looked very similar to Gong Cha’s special tea drink. Except this one was called “Jasmine Tea with Rock Salt Cheese.”
Rock Salt Cheese, eh? Let’s see what they mean by that.

“It’s really cheese!” Chin exclaimed. “It’s freaking cheese in my tea!”
Apparently the white stuff was some kind of cheesy material, and you drink the layer together with the tea. It tasted a bit like jasmine tea mixed with cheesecake, which was REALLY weird. For some reason, Chin liked it, so I guess everything went well.
We ended the night by checking out the Temple Street Bazaar again so that Peter could take a look, but lightning started to flash, the girls jumped, and we all tried to book it out of the rain.
Oh yeah, Jesada, Chin told me to take a picture of this for you because apparently that’s a “mini-you.” Don’t ask me why, but be flattered that he carries that thing everywhere he goes since it’s attached to his keys. :D
